Bernie at the Barnard Bridge

I don't know whom to credit for the picture or the photoshop but I love it.

This is the old brick building across the bridge where old guys often hang out. I love seeing Bernie there.

Meanwhile, I'm excited about the new directions the administration is taking--and also about the news that Biden's approval rating is, at the moment, higher than that other person's ever was.

Bernie is unique and will remain unique.

The timing of my re-reading The Lord of the Rings was fortuitous, for the events of the fall of Sauron came as 45 vacated the White House; the coronation of Aragorn as Elessar, King of Gondor was reflected in the inauguration of Biden, both followed by fireworks and celebrations. And now has come the Scouring of the Shire.

When Sam said to his dear Rosie at the very end, "Well, I'm back", I thought: yes. And so are we, as a nation: we've come back. Or at least are coming back. I hope. We have a chance at coming back. I pray that we seize that chance and return better than we were, having formed a more perfect union than before.

I've honestly been over-Bernied on FB. I am certainly glad the Senate is at least going to start a trial of the orange one. I am not certain that there will be results that I wish for however. I guess 4 years of losing most of my hopefulness is still with me.

I feel both hopeful and concerned. Hopeful (and happy!) because Biden is taking so many positive steps and his approval rating is so high. Concerned because they are still out there: the right wingers and their agendas. I do hope reconciliation and unity are stronger than ill-will and bias. At any rate, we have the best team for realizing that in Biden and Harris.

In a world of so many wonderful Bernie’s - that’s a good one. Hope exists!
