Hail, Yes!

A sudden hailstorm blew in and for a while, thanks to our metal roof, it was a great deal like being inside a popcorn popper.

When it was all over, there was a welcome inch and seven-tenths in the rain gauge and the air was much cooler.

Jenny is not a fan of rainy weather and especially not a fan of hail.

Hoping it didn't damage any gardens. Back when we grew tobacco, hail was a worry as a bad storm could destroy an entire just-planted crop.

I don't know if there's any baccer grown in the county nowadays. It's a terrible, labor and chemical intensive crop that contributes to addiction and causes cancer--good riddance.

But it was wonderful to have participated in the deep-rooted culture of our new home.  I wouldn't have missed the experience.

I wonder if we will get that weather system here. Another very hot day for NH today. No AC which means a concerted effort to keep the house cooled with fans and shades.

No AC here either but so far shades and fans do a good job.

Wow...we had weather warnings that evening, but nothing came here! Yes, the NC tobacco growers have had to switch crops or move out, I imagine. I remember when I first moved to the piedmont in the late 1980s how many fields had tobacco crops, and barns with those open wings for drying them. When I came back from FL in the 2000's they were all gone.

And in Colorado two feet of snow fell. Our heat will break later today, bringing in thunderstorms and possibly our own hail. Then highs in the upper 60s for a while. The cats have been loving the heat in our screened porch.
