Where was this cryptic quote? I sort of see it as a piece of paper tacked to the front door, or more likely left somewhere in the house where the intended recipient is sure to see it: "Going out. [I'll be] Back soon. Busy. Back soon."
House At Pooh Corner. Christopher Robin is beginning school. It was. I believe, tacked on his front door.
Obviously, it's been far too long since I read Pooh. :(
