On Thursday afternoon we could see it coming--the projected rain and cold front due to hit around 4 am Friday morning.
John was busy with preventive measure--heaters in green house and basement, water stored in jugs, extra hay and sweet feed for cattle, the list goes on and on.
As of Friday morning, we still had water and power, though Justin and Claui's water had frozen. At midday the temperature was around 9 degrees F and it's going to be colder. UPDATE: As of this morning (Saturday), it's 1 degree F. But our water is still running. And we have power.
Reluctantly, we advised Ethan and Aileen of the situation and suggested they postpone traveling to NC till later. If we lose power and/or water, it wouldn't be comfortable for them. So we'll have a second celebration with them later.
Meanwhile, my thoughts are with the people of Ukraine, facing the winter as Putin attempts to destroy their infrastructure. How can anyone support this evil man? The reprehensible GOP congress members who refuse to support Ukraine are, instead, choosing Putin. I simply don't understand.

I hope you can all gather for Christmas in a warm house. Sorry Ethan and Aileen can't be with you. I am watching the birds swarm our feeders and the generous serving of seed that Jerry spread on the patio and the frozen ground. Al we can do is wait it out. Glad you are still with water and power. Me too. One tree was blown across a residential road yesterday, and now there's free firewood after it was cleared. Here it was 0 from midnight to 8 am...but a great big 4 degrees as I type this at 9:30. I need to start my car sometime, if it gets up to the teens...just to keep it's parts working. Christmas joys can be spread out across the season, so that everyone is safe.
I didn't know you have cattle, of course we've met the dogs, cat and goldfish. -6 a few days ago in Lexington, KY, but getting warmer up to 16* by 5:00 p.m. today. Beautiful snow everywhere, blazing fireplace on TV screen, a poinsettia in bloom, hours of piano music playing, hot tea, potpourri simmering on range, cards and a few simple gifts wait for 25th make for a lovely comforting Christmas for this newly widowed resident in assisted living. Thank you for sharing your delightful world. I pray you and yours remain safe. Best wishes.
