Wonderful amaryllis (which I never can spell, so thanks to spell check today)! The velvety red petals just look so - I can't come up with a good adjective here - tactile? deep? smooth? Velvety is the best! I do see those orchids coming into flower soon!
My mother had an amaryllis she took great pride in coaxing back to life and bloom every Christmas. Not sure what happened to it -- probably died of neglect while she sank into mental darkness and I was just concentrating on holding things together, which is what happened to the gloriously large Christmas cactus that originated from a Christmas gift I'd been given as a child a good thirty years before ... My mother's the one who had a green thumb. Me, not so much, alas.
