Words and pictures from the author of And the Crows Took Their Eyes as well as the Elizabeth Goodweather Appalachian Mysteries . . .
A good cure for the bleakness.
This morning I look out on the snow and the temperature in the teens and gratefully turn to the inside where there is a scarlet amaryllis blooming and an orchid just about to bloom.
Once again Buncombe County Schools are closed, and I decided they had an idea that the kids might all arrive, then the roads would get slick (as forecast) and they'd be stuck with all those children at schools. I'm bad.
Orchids? I've never had one (all my houseplants die!) but they are exquisite.
