Summer Seen

Pale sweeps of cloud and mist tint the morning sky. . .

Sunflower stems lift up swirled buds . . . up . . . higher up . . . while heart-shaped leaves take deep green breaths . . .

And the daylily bloom unfurls for its moment in the sun.

I know you have bird feeders and was wondering if you have found many "surprise" plants thanks to the birds? I have found many sunflowers, some corn and what looks like a type of wheat. My favorite surprise though is courtesy of the squirrels. I have two large walnut trees on the edge of my property. I'm guessing the critters have hidden walnuts and forgotten them, as I now have a tree growing at the edge of my driveway. When they dug out my yard for a drainfield, I just had him pile some rocks around the area as a border, so now I have a tree growing in a small rock garden. (I think I'll post a photo on my blog later today.)
Squirrels as landscapers...who knew?

Yep, all of the above. Chipmunks very helpfully plant sunflowers here, there , and everywhere -- wonderful random surprises.

Hi Vicki! Finished the new book last night - way to leave us hanging! (And I almost got a bit teary when I read your acknowledgements - will take this to show the folks tonight.) I really enjoyed spending a few days at Gudger's Stand, and am looking forward to Miss Birdie's story.

I always love seeing your garden pictures. Between the dry weather and the cicada damage, I'm about ready to give up. Do you have the cicadas?

Thanks for another wonderful read!

Thank goodness, no cicadas at the moment. Dry, dry, dry, though. And the heat is keeping me from doing that which I should be doing in the garden.

So glad you enjoyed Dark Season -- sorry about that cliff hanger ending -- I didn't know that the Miss Birdie book was going to be next -- only meant to make you wait a year, not two, for resolution.
