January Treat

I couldn't resist these lovely heirloom tomatoes at the grocery store. When I got home, they seemed to be telling me I needed to make a tomato galette--never mind that I'd considered this a summer dish.

So I did. And it was very, very good.  Even without the fresh basil garnish I would have had in summertime.

I gave the recipe on a previous post HERE.

This is cruel. It’s 6:30. I have been up for 2 hours, but due to a new rule for self, I won’t eat for another 2.5 hours. I may cheat a little on that this morning because I am feeling a bit peckish.

Looks delicious. Those vari-coloured tomatoes are rare here. You can sometimes buy little yellow ones but supermarkets only have red.

You're lucky to get summer vegetables in winter, if these are locally grown. Of course, we have tomatoes in winter too, but they come from far off places and cost plenty. They're also barely edible because they're picked long before they ripen so they will survive shipping. In summer even the big supermarkets carry locally grown organic produce, fully ripened. Another reason to long for summer!

These were fine cooked slightly under ripe--but nothing like summer tomatoes.
