Here's My Exciting News!

My Civil War novel has found a home! After wandering in the wilderness for way too long, it will be published in the fall of 2020 by Regal House Publishing -- a small traditional press out of Raleigh, NC! I am impressed with what I've learned about Regal and believe that they will give this child of my heart their best attention.

At the moment, the title is undecided. My working tile was THE WAY OF IT, but I have never really been satisfied with it. So some brainstorming is going on with the editorial staff.

I have been installed on Regal House's Website with a bio and a photo. (I would have loved to send in an old one but since my last decent photo is about ten years old and my hair is different now, I felt obliged to face up to the current me.)

"Well, at least you look like a serious author," John said in regard to the glasses and my inability to smile for a camera.

Thanks to all of you who have helped and encouraged me over the years since I began this project. Thanks for not asking too often when the book would ever be published. And major thanks to the folks who helped me with research -- Drew and Louise Langsner, Susan Moore, Dr. James Allen, Priscilla Hope, Dan Slagle, Kimberly Shelton, and especially Patricia Wallin and her family who took me to see the graves of the massacre victims.

You can follow the link HERE to my author's page at Regal House.

Congratulations! You deserve serious kudos for sticking to it, for a really long time, to get that book published. I'm so looking forward to reading it. I hope the Miss Birdie stories get out there in the world as well.

I love the picture. You do look like a serious author and it's flattering in a "take me seriously" kind of way, which is what you need for a serious book. I really like the haircut.

Thanks, folks! Karen, I'm going to self-publish the Miss Birdie stories -- after I write a few more.

I am so happy for you. My expletive over on FB won't be repeated, I might get banished from blogger! But you know it's fan-f-ing-tastic news! I hope you danced a jig and drank a bit of fruit juice (or grain) that's been fermented.

The current you is perfection! I'm incredibly happy for you and proud of your persistence. You're making a valuable literary contribution to the history of the south. Now you have all that pre-pub work to look forward to -- edits, endless proofreading, etc. Enjoy!

The picture is a stunner. It draws one in and makes one want a conversation with the author.

After living so long and happily in the NC mountains, did you have to be so proud of being a Floridian? :) Otherwise, the write up is lovely and I like the photograph.

A huge CONGRATULATIONS on a dream fulfilled. I'm really looking forward to reading it. When you do the Miss Birdie stories, how about putting some Ba foods in a few of them with the recipes at the end of the book?

NC Mtnwoman -- I was trying to make two points-- 1. I'm not from here -- just an observer looking in. 2. And I'm not a Florida Yankee either but of a similar heritage to NC natives.

Good idea about the recipes -- I'll see if I can make it work.

So happy for you. It sounds like your book has found a good home at Regal, as the subject matter is so regionally relevant that they can do much with the promo. Unfortunately, I know that most of the promo now is on the author's shoulders... a long journey for sure.

I agree, your photo is spot-on. You look much more like an author than a farmer. But, you do make an adorable Meemaw too!

Many thanks to all of you!
