Early August

Purple coneflowers in crisp, starched perfection. . .
Half-hidden amid the glossy leaves,
Pears ripen in luxuriant trusses  . . .
Seed heads promise a return next year . . .

And the long evening light lingers in the still air.

Very striking (and very beautiful) photographs. You take everyday scenes and somehow freeze-dry the beauty and symmetry.

You captured the essence of early August.
I wished those days would never end.

Happy Sunday!

Every one of those pictures is gorgeous - and I love the word luxuriant.

Thanks, folks -- these days are pretty rushed but there's still time, thank goodness, to catch these moments.

Your flowers are beautiful. We had coneflowers the first few years that we lived here, then the rabbits came in and ate all of them. Those pears look lucious. Your pictures of seed heads and seed pods make me see flowers in a new way.

Jon Lee -- I love flowers like coneflowers and hydrangeas and sedum that ue to be interesting even well pst their prime -- just like some people.

Thanks, Tipper! There's still a lot that's beautiful out there!

Paul C. - I've always loved those long shadows.

Suz -- Perfect! You nailed it!

Friko -- it can be pretty blah or just godawful hot but the past few days have been less humid and actually hint that Autumn may come someday.

Carol -- Good question!

Barbara - I love the way tress show up with the sun behind them! And that one has a pretty trunk, I think.

Thanks, Victoria! Poetic prose or prosaic poetry? Who can say?
