Name This 'Shroom !

On a recent trip to a local hardware store, I saw these lovely mushrooms growing in the mulched landscaping in the parking lot.

How I wish I knew more about mushrooms! I could imagine these plump little ones, all tender and succulent, sauteed with butter and garlic.

On the other hand, I could imagine dying an agonizing death, swelling up and turning purple.

Are there any mushroom experts out there? I have a small, inadequate book that isn't helping. (Not that I would trust just a book identification. A mushroom expert, here in person, who eats the fungi in question the day before and survives -- that's what I'll trust.)

But I'm curious to know what these are -- if any of you have any ideas, please comment. Rest assured, even if you tell me these are edible, I won't go rushing back to harvest them.

I can't help you out, but they sure are pretty.

Well, dang, Pat, I was hoping you might know!

Miss Yves commented about them on an earlier post and said she knew their name, but only in French. C'est la vie.

I can't tell you anything about mushrooms, however, on a completely different subject, over the next two days I shall be driving in a large circle around you - Boone, NC to Knoxville, TN to Spartanburg, SC and back to Boone. I will wave!

Hey, Karen -- I'd say drop by but all those places are what you might call a far piece from where I am. I will, however, wave!

I found the above site: May be not much help to you, but I browsed through a few images, quite fun. ;-)

Thanks, Merisi! I'll check it out!
