Chinese Red Noodle Beans

My friend Kathy, the original of Sallie Kate in my books, stopped by to visit the other day and brought us some Chinese Red Noodle Beans from her garden.

The guys were so long I had to get down my super big wok to stir fry them. Sure, I could have cut them into smaller pieces but where's the glory in that? I wanted to pile them on our plates in their full lengths.

Which I did, along with the stuffed squash and London Broil. Wow! Pretty amazing and not a little creepy.

But in a fun way. And tasty too!

I have never heard of these and have never seen anything like them either. The final product looks a little strange laying on your plate, but the burning question is ... how did they taste?

These bean noodles look so interesting - how did they taste? I used to buy similarly long noodles at a Korean grocery in DC. They did not taste much different from regular green beans, a little sweeter maybe.

I'm pretty easy going about trying new foods but these are a little too wormy looking for me!HA!

By the way, Queen Victoria is not bossy, she's a leader and and they all follow her lead! :)

To be truthful, they didn't have all that much taste. I think they were a bit immature. Very firm and crunchy, despite their worm-like appearance. We felt we were getting a good dose of fiber in our diet. I want to try them again -- some that have matured a bit.

This is the first time in my life to see red noodle beans. Even in Indonesia I didn't see them. So I learn something new each day! Thank you!

I've never heard of these nor seen them either. I have to say they look like worms on the plate and I'm not sure I fancy them. However, I trust you so I'm sure they are delicious. Please describe the taste?

A very strange appearence !
I fear I don't find these Noodle Beans very tempting)
But It's funny to discover new vegetables...

Reader Wil -- This was my first time to see these beans too -- I love new stuff!

Star -- see my comment above about the taste. We had them in a vegetable salad with vinaigrette the next day -- still not a lot of taste but good crunch.

Miss Yves - they are indeed strange in appearance -- but so many things that some find delicious -- raw oysters, beef tongue, chicken gizzards, pig's feet, marshmallows, eel, for a few -- are visually unappealing to others.

The end product isn't what I pictured when I saw the first photos! Very odd, but definitely a conversation starter! They would make fun Halloween food. :-)
(Thinking baby black snakes here...)

A great, all-purpose word -- interesting. It can mean anything from cool! to Eeewwwww! And it can mean -- interesting. These beans are all of the above. ;-)
