Circuit of the Sun

The moonlight made the dogs restless and they paced and whined and generally disturbed our rest. So when the room began to brighten yesterday morning, I just pulled the covers over my head in hopes of a bit more sleep.

But then I couldn't resist coming up for air to see what the morning looked like. All I had to do was lift my head and open my eyes.

And what a reward! A sky full of pink cloud sheep -- moutons, as Miss Yves tells me the French call the clouds when they flock together like that.

I don't know how many sunrise pictures I've taken over the years. A lot.

Here's a slide show of sunrises from January to January. I love watching the sun's movement from south to north and back again.

Remember, click on the slide show to biggify the pictures.

To wake to these scenes each morning, Vicki. Well, sometimes it must render you speechless.

WV has provided a far less charming alternative, with thedump!

Stunning photos and video! We call those clouds "schaapjes wolken"meaning "little sheep clouds". So in many languages we have the same expression!

There's no point in trying to pick a favorite in those 44 pictures; they're all beautiful.

As soon as I saw the photo on your blog header this morning, I said "OH OH OH!! I know when that was!!!" I wanted in the most desperate way to grab my camera and head outside yesterday morning, but couldn't. I was heading out for a trip to Greensboro and didn't have time. So I did what I sometimes do in those situations, I took a photo of it with my mind, to keep it there. Beautiful sunrise photos! And I've never heard this type of clouds called "sheep clouds" before, and am particularly intrigued that the entire world calls them that! May I ask - what kind of camera do you have?

I love your photos, Vicki. Like Joan I'm noticing the skies much more than I did when I was younger. Nothing moves me quite as much as a gorgeous sunrise or sunset.

I had left my camera home (again) and on the way to work the trees down in the river valley were all frosted and beautiful. And for some reason this made me think of you and your lovely sunrise pictures! It's curious but there is actually a breed of sheep called 'mouflons'. :-)
