The forsythia branches in the pitcher on the dining table have popped into cheery, vibrant bloom.
On Friday, at a stop light in Asheville, the shape of the tree against the sky caught my attention and I just had time to dig out my camera and get one quick shot before the light turned green.
Also on Friday, heading to Hot Springs at sundown to do a talk and signing for the Friends of the Hot Springs Library, the sky demanded that I stop and take its picture.
And in the morning sun, the amaryllis extended its green tongue a bit farther.

The weather up there is crazy - snow and blooming forsythia branches and bare branches! Momma Earth in all Her glory.
Wonderful photos vicki. Spring giving a little foretaste there. Love that sky.
Beautiful photos of skies and plants!
"The green tongue"...I love your analogy and the light on the bud.
One the most cheery sights, forsythia in bloom.
My grandma instilled in me that spring was around the corner when you saw the first robin and a forsythia started blooming. I love the bright yellow of them and till this day I feel that excitement inside when I see one.
There are early pages on my blog when the Sky in January all but screamed "Welcome home spring!" but I think the sky has a broader view than I. The same post shows the deck I was standing on, cedar with poke-a-dots because of early morning hail still frozen on the planks. But that sky, that carries the southern birds home, whispers to me that surly spring is coming close behind my winged friends.
oh, what welcome signs of spring - Lovely!!
thank you!
We're covered in snow again, the clouds are grouped up for maybe more.
And then you bring the sun into my house. THANK you!
And I thought I was the only one that takes photos at stoplights. LOL! Cheery hint-of-spring pics, hopefully they'll keep the snow at bay.
A beautiful blend of sleeping and waking!
Interesting how many of the blogs I am reading have turned to thoughts of Spring. It's getting closer, day by day and soon will be here. Then, all too soon gone, leaving the heat of summer behind.
Signs of life, if you know where to look for them.
Wonderful! I love forsynthia ... and trees against sky ... and green shoots ... and WNC ...
Vicki -- Sunshine in a vase Spring in a vase. You have all that is yet to come.

Don't blink. The amarylis will bloom when you do.
That sky is beautiful. Everytime I see one that pretty, it is hidden by telephone poles or buidings or trees when I find a safe place to stop.
Delicious photos Vicki. I loved to see the forsythia blooming. I knew it couldn't be outside!! not yet. Don't you just love amarylis. I have one in England but I have no idea how it's getting on. Must find out soon. You reminded me of it.
