A Fresh Look
After all the Christmas red and green, my eyes are craving a change so I haul out the blue and yellow bits and pieces -- throw pillow covers, quilts, paintings, et cetera, et cetera.
The tree and its lights are gone but we still have tiny white lights around the windows, bookshelf, stairs and mantelpiece. They'll stay up through the dark days of January while the starry quilt adds its own light.
I love beginning the new year with a new look -- well, the same new look we had last January. And will have next January. A lifetime's collection and inheritance of stuff (as well as a goodsize mathom closet) makes it possible.
Such a vivid change for all the green and red, and lovely items they are too. Thanks for the link for mathom, I certainly don't remember this word from Lord of the Rings.
Those are lovely mathoms you have there. You are fortunate to have a large closet to store them in. I'm a sentimental sort, so have a fair collection of mathoms myself, perched on windowsills, tables, the edges of bookshelves, etc. Makes it a bit hard to dust, but I would miss them if they were gone. So many of them remind me of those I love and have loved.

As you can probably tell from my blog, blue is one of my all time favorite colors. It's so soothing and uplifting to me. Wonder why they call them the blues? haha.
Fabulous refreshing colors, and so wonderful to see your talents revealed in other ways through the painting and quilts. Thanks for sharing the word "mathom" - a new one for me, the manifestations of which I have very few but my mom has many! LOL
Oh, my! Gorgeous. I am in love with the skull and sun. Don't let me come visit you with a large bag of any kind. Because you might find something missing when I vamoosed.
Blue and Yellow are a favorite springtime combo for me....as to us, I have left the snowmen still in the guest bath; they can stay till end of January. Our burgundy and gold remain in the dining room along with some snowy woodsy fox and the penguins that come out in January. Nice collection; a certain reward of amassing over life!
You made those quilts and the painting?? Wow, I'm impressed!! I immediately thought the painting was a Georgia O'Keefe. Okay, so it's been a few years since I was in art school, like 30.... But still! Nice work!
Beautiful colors! "Same procedure as every year" reminds me of that little black and white movie people here watch on New Year's Eve, "Dinner for One" - have you heard about it? Curiously, it's an English movie, but almost unknown in Great Britain.
I had a lot of walking to do yesterday afternoon. The weather was a little weird, sunshine one moment, snow flurries the next. The light has changed, though, all of a sudden spring seems to be in the air. Our Christmas tree stays up throughout the Twelve Days of Christmas, it comes down after the Three Kings Feast (maybe even later this year, school work keeps me very busy once again).
Blues and yellows make a wonderful combination. Our favourite combination in some of our pottery is teal and maroon. Your images provide fresh windows for the new year.

Marilyn -- I believe that mathom was in THE HOBBIT -- and the hobbits had mathom houses to store their bits and pieces.
