Another Florida

There's another Florida -- away from the traffic and the high rises and the Mouse and the golf courses. There are untouched beaches, sand dunes and sea oats, and in winter, there are very few visitors.

These are photos taken (I think) in 2004, when we visited the State Park on the St. Joseph Peninsula in the Florida panhandle.

Miles of beach on the Gulf of Mexico, a bay over which to watch the sun rise, deer, bald eagles . . a Florida paradise.

Vicki, those are beautiful photos. Florida is a state I've never been fortunate enough to visit, but I've wanted to ever since I saw "Cross Creek" starring Mary Steenburgen as Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings.

I'm not much of a beach person mostly because of the crowds. So I'll have to check this out, I could become one here! :) Thanks for the heads up!

Beautiful pictures of the beaches with white sand and brushwood. A welcome gift on this cold January day, Vicki. Thank you. I can feel the warm breeze on my face.

Just goes to show that it is still possible to get away from it all. Great images of the dunes and wild shoreline.

Victoria -When I was very young there were still beaches like this along the Gulf Coast near Tampa. Now it's one long strip of condo's. The old Florida Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings knew is almost all gone except in a very few remote (and protected) places.

I suspect this is a bit more crowded in the summer, Carol. February was chilly and almost deserted.

Thanks, Star and Martin!

Beautiful and unusual views...
(Of course I only know usual pictures of Florida by the movies -Lol-)

Thanks, Vicki for the tour! Florida must be very beautiful! I wish I could see it myself. How nice that you also were in Blois!

This is the Florida I love -- the over-built, over-crowded rest of it is why we moved to the mountains. That and the fact that it's VERY hot in the summer.

Vicki, those photos are gorgeous. I'm a beach person but I'm not much on crowds. These are perfect for me.

I'm so glad that at least a small bit of Florida-as-it-was survives. I think I could even put up with the heat in these surroundings.
