A Fine Easter Weekend
It was a great weekend with perfect weather, lots of friends and family . . .
Easter eggs were hidden and found ...
The barn was full of food and the air was full of music ...
And various good times were had...

A Little Walk
Of course the devastation that has hit Japan has been on my mind - Japan, Haiti, Chile, New Zealand - the names are like a tolling bell, a reminder that, in an instant, everything one loves can be swept away. A reminder to cherish what one has.
A week ago I slipped on the basement stairs and twisted my knee (already in rather poor shape) so that I've been hobbling about like an even older lady than I already am.
At last -- many ibuprofen later -- the knee is more flexible and the weather is warmer and the ground hardly squishes at all and it's time to take a little walk and be thankful for the undisturbed beauty all around.

A Few More Pictures...
Morning light . . .
Sweet gum bright . . .
What does the wooly worm see ahead?
Nandina berries -- winter red.
And a series of sky shots from Tuesday evening as I left the house around five to go to teach my class. The western sky was beautiful from our porch (there was even a brief rainbow from a passing shower), more intense down at the lower place where I switch from the Jeep to the little gas-efficient Honda Fit and quite spectacular by the time I hit the hard road at the end of our half mile driveway. (As always, click on a picture or on the slide show to biggify.)

Now She Is a Cow
On Tuesday, Marigold the heifer gave birth, thereby becoming a cow! Bubba's a healthy little bull --who looks like his Devon sire.
These two pictures are from Wednesday -- and the first milking.

Below is a slide show of the birth with captions, for those who might be interested. A little earthy, perhaps, but that's how birth is...

Natural Dilemma
A Monarch butterfly, struggling in a web . . . Of course I released it . . .
But then I felt bad for the hungry spider. . .
Sometimes it seems that the beautiful people get all the breaks.

Come for a Walk
The past week has been just spectacular with so many things coming into bloom. I saw the first humming bird yesterday evening and though the tulips and daffodils are going, going, gone, there are buds showing on the roses and the iris.
We had a wonderful visit with the cousins from Tampa -- I made one pound cake before they arrived and their daughter Fay liked it so much that she and I made a second one. Barb kindly helped me get my garden ready to do some more planting -- all of this is documented in the slide show below.
And a very happy Sunday to all of you!

The Green Wheelbarrow
... with apologies to William Carlos Williams

so much depends
upon
a green wheel
barrow
white with
snow dust
snow dust
before the dark
moon gate
We were happy to be spared the major snow and ice so many got.
On Sunday morning there was just a light dusting of snow everywhere.

Another Florida

There's another Florida -- away from the traffic and the high rises and the Mouse and the golf courses. There are untouched beaches, sand dunes and sea oats, and in winter, there are very few visitors.

These are photos taken (I think) in 2004, when we visited the State Park on the St. Joseph Peninsula in the Florida panhandle.
Miles of beach on the Gulf of Mexico, a bay over which to watch the sun rise, deer, bald eagles . . a Florida paradise.

Giving Thanks
Today I'm giving thanks for friends and family and all the wonderful things that fill my life in this very special corner of the world.
And I'm also thankful for all of you -- my blog friends who expand my horizons and remind me how small the world is becoming.
Happy Thanksgiving to all! I wish you could join us at our table -- wouldn't that be an amazing gathering!
