A Roving Eye . . . and a Winner!

looking for pictures . . .

ivy, green and pink beneath the snow . . .

. . . a cardinal posing in a triangle of grapevine . . .

Extreme patina and archival ties . . . last worn . . . when?

Gaudy pepper . . .

less gaudy lady cardinal . . .

A long exposure and less than steady hand turn the Christmas lights into a flight of shining doves . . .

The woodpile -- all-important these days -- has a rhythmic beauty of its own . . .

and an attempt to capture the moon, again with a long exposure and wobbly hand, produced this dramatic burst of light . . .

. . . looking for pictures . . .

As promised back on December 26, I've drawn two names to receive copies of The Day of Small Things when at last it's published in September.

And the winners are . . . (drumroll) . . . Vagabonde, Pat Weaver, and Nancy Meadows.

Okay, three winners, as Pat and Nancy's slips were stuck together. I'll need snail mail addresses and you all will need patience -- unless you'd rather have one of my earlier books.

Vicki

Sometimes the less than steady hand results in a 'happy accident'. I really love the 'shining doves'.

Woo hoo!!! I'm EXCITED over being a winner!!!

Very interesting array of pictures today. There was nothing to be found peeking out of the snow on my walk in the woods yesterday ... we're covered up with more to come! I really like your over-exposed, shaky hand pictures.

Congratulations to the lucky winners. Your eye for photography is wonderful. Love the lady cardinal. They are so skiddish - she must have liked you.

I drag myself out of my sick bed to catch up with you and first thing I see, is I'm a loser!! :(
Going back to bed! :)

Congrats to the winners! That Pat is on a winning streak!

Yep, Martin and Pat -- I sometimes really like those weird exposures.

Actually, Sam, that was taken though the window with the telephoto lens doing the heavy lifting.

Sorry to disappoint an invalid, Carol -- have a nice cup of tea!

Congrats to the winners!! I love all the pics-maybe my favorite one is the door with ties.

Great photographs. But don't let photography take you away from your writing. I'm so ready for another book.

I love that closet door too, Tipper. It looks like a story waiting to be told.

I'm writing, really I am, Mountainwoman. But sometimes it's necessary to have a little fun.

Congratulations to the winners!

Beautiful photos, Vicki. I especially like the ones of the cardinals and the moon.

Thanks, Victoria! Still willing the snow westwards . . .

I looked at your pictures and they are really good but for some reason I am very fond of that red pepper. I looked at it many times trying to imagine what it looked like – and I came up with many ideas. By the way there will be a Nikon school at the Galleria in Atlanta on 16 and 17 January. I enrolled on the 16th – I hope they will teach me some good techniques – I need it.

My goodness Vicki – I looked so much at your red pepper that I did not see the rest of your paragraph and that I was a winner! That is so “super” as they say in France. I am so honored and pleased. That will be my lucky year if I start with such a wonderful gift. I just went back to read your post again to make sure I had not made a mistake – but I had not. Thanks a million - I’ll be waiting with expectation.

Congratulations, Vagabonde, you are, indeed, a winner. The book I offered in the drawing won't be published till September -- if you'd rather have one of my already published titles, I'll be happy to do that. Just let me know when you send me your address. My email address is vicki_laneATmtnareaDOTnet

I envy you that Nikon workshop -- I wonder if they have one in Asheville.

Ans to the red pepper -- I find it somewhat pornographic . . . but that may just be me.

Oh, boy, Vicki! I'm so excited that I was a winner - and I love your pictures. The pepper was, indeed, a winner!
