September First

One of our wild turkeys -- daily visitors at the bird feeder . . .

Beautiful blue-violet spires of Blue Lobelia . . . starry Michaelmas Daisies -- a sure sign of coming fall. . . .
Turtlehead Chelone at woods edge -- a shy treasure . . .

Bright chrysanthemums, smelling of high school homecoming games, look toward fall.

It is hard to believe that it is September already, but I'm ready for fall, and the past couple of days have felt quite 'fall like' here. Looks like my garden is thinking it's fall too as it's slowing down, wanting to take a much needed rest after an over-abundant summer.

We've had wild turkeys around here too but haven't been able to get a good picture of them. It's fun to see all of the wildlife - as long as they don't eat my plants. The deer ate the azaleas last year as if they were appetizers set out just for them. Do you know any tricks to keep them away from the plants? When we lived in Pennsylvania, in the winter they put up deer fences around large shrubs but I would hate to have to do that here. The fences were ugly to say the least.

Sam -- About deer -- so far they haven't been a problem -- possible because our dogs are in and out during the night and would chase them. we also have a solar-powered blinking red light that is supposed to deter them --

Miss Yves -- This is cool weather for this time of year -- usually we have summer well into September. I'm loving this early Fall!
