Vicki, Chinese poetry was one of my very first loves, and I remember using a woman poet named Li Ching Chao in a paper on Oriental Art when I was in college. Rexroth was the translator, but of course Pound's "transformations" are wonderful, part of the canon of English lang. poetry. I recall a contemp. Chinese poet/translator talking about the "emotional weight" of an image. It's something I've always remembered.
I have two books of translations by Rexroth - one of Chinese poetry -- one of Japanese. I've had them almost fifty years -- I'm always going back to them.
