Wildlife, Fleeting and Otherwise

Coming home from the grocery store, as I turned off the bridge to head up Anderson Branch, I saw this heron standing in the shallows. By the time I stopped and poked the camera out the window, he was feeling alarmed and decided to leave. I was lucky to get the one shot.

Then, coming up the road below our house, I spotted a bunch of turkey poults. Unfortunately, Bob the Dog spotted them too and took off after them Again, I was lucky to get the one shot before they disappeared.

Just then a flash of red on the mountainside caught my eye. This one didn't run -- but she was pretty far off, testing the limits of my lens.

John comments that all the deer he's seen this year seem redder than the usual mousy brown. This girl certainly is.

Last sighting -- just above my herb and lettuce garden. He didn't move -- too full of parsley, probably.

Cool wildlife! I'm surprised you have any lettuce left and that the deer doesn't eat your flowers.

Rabbits tend to assume the still position, at least at first. There must be an evolutionary reason for this although I am not sure what it might be.

Great name for a rabbit-- Parsley. :-)

Vicki, these are such great pictures...wonderful that you had your camera with you.
The first picture of the heron is particularly beautiful.
Your comment about the bunny and parsley access made me giggle! xo

All of these photos are so wonderful. The top one looked like a tapestry at first when I saw it. The deer and bunny is so good to see. You hit the jackpot in finding things in which to take photos.

Such a nice series of wildlife pictures. It was good that you could catch all these sweet creatures in time for your photos. Thanks to share them with us.

Great photos of critters. That Great Blue Heron is so beautiful. Its really a "snake with feathers". They can strike a humming bird in flight.

Sometimes those fleeting sights are the best. They surely give me the most pleasure.
