John returned from the feed store yesterday afternoon to find that Silverbell had calved -- a husky good-looking bull calf ...
And on Wednesday, we dispatched 25 chickens . . .

He's beautiful and I wish I had those lashes! The chicken dispatching... la la la la la... I'm not going to think about that, even if I DO love chicken.
Nothing quite like farming for putting the cycle of life under the microscope. Handsome calf, by-the-way.
Birth and death - and so the story goes on...
I do remember your last year's dispatching! :-)
Wow, I can't believe you caught this with your camera. Good going Silverbell.

life and death...lovely new bull....love the color of its coat....
The beauty of life on the farm. Life as it was meant to be.
well, I share the beauty of new life. Guess there wasn't that much to photograph of the well earned deaths, for which you will probably be thankful many times over. You can take pics after frying...
A beautiful bull it is! -- barbara
Beautiful photos Vicki. Congratulations to Marigold.
Poor chickens. Did you do that to save them from the cold? (wink) November is that (emphasis) time of the year unfortunately.
Justin has just told me that the calfie's name is Toblerone -- to be called Toby. (Previous bull calves from the Jersey Girls were Milk Dud (Dudley) and Herschel.
Mum and baby look extremely healthy. I won't think about the chickens!
A real beautiful baby!
What a cute little brand new boy!
The chickens look as if they died gracefully. I well remember that stink of hot wet feathers. Ick.
What's with the mannequin with the damaged cranium?
Now THAT is a baby!
