Winter Collage

From the icicles at every window that make me feel like a prisoner of the White Witch to the hoar frost on the distant trees, Winter keeps finding new ways to arrange ice crystals.

Our basement windows yesterday were etched with the most beautiful frost patterns . . .

I imagine them as fabric in various colorways -- Rain Forest; Deep Sea; Chiaroscuro; and (Meshach, Shadrach, and Abednego) In the Fiery Furnace.

These days, fun is where you find it.

Vicki, your photo of the frost pattern is so beautiful it takes my breath away!

Isn't that amazing! It's the first time that's happened and it didn't last long. I had schlepped down to the basement to go out and fill the bird feeder and, as you say, my breath was taken away. So I hurried back upstairs for my camera before the sun hit the windows.

The frost patterns are exquisite, but your collage at the top is out of this world beautiful!

I had to be out early this morning and walked by the Swarovsky store. I took a few pictures, trying to avoid the reflection of the "M" - too bad it was still pitch dark! Interestingly, the blue illumination is gone and with it most of the magic.

Hi Vicki,You have such a wonderful eye for catching beauty, the photos are very special. Winter has us all in her icy grip, we have had the most unseasonal temperatures that have not been witnessed for over forty years. Today a very strong gale force has started to blow. Keep warm and cozy. Hugs, Margie.

Beautifully done, Vicki! The White Witch is very powerful here as well, but she must surrender in the end. I suppose that she is the one of "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe"? I enjoyed reading the Narnia Chronicles!!

The frost pattern is absolutely beautiful, and when you put the colors to it, it makes for a lovely picture.

Winter is getting old around here, although there is much beauty to it, BUT when I looked out last evening and saw it snowing again I couldn't believe it! Relief is on it's way though, or so they say.

Gorgeous pictures of the frost. I like the white one best but the others are wonderful too. Saw some pictures of cars skidding in Atlanta today on our TV over here in England. You have it very bad too don't you, in America.
Blessings, Star

Thanks, Merisi! (From now on I'll think of you whenever I see the golden arches!)

Margie -- it's worse for folks in areas where this sort of cold is so rare, isn't it. Stay warm!

Oh, yes, Wil! THAT White Witch. I'm a great fan of C.S. Lewis, having gone so far as to write my MA thesis on the use of proper names in one of his novels.

Yes, Pat, it's snowing here too. But think of how it's helping the water table! Poor Victoria in California hasn't had any precipitation since November. We must count our blessings. (Said with a grim smile.)

Star and Willow -- I do love that frost picture -- but it immediately made me think of the wonderful tone on tone fabrics that are so terrific for quilting.

Your collage is very artistic. Did you do it with Photoshop? The Cobb Photo Club is offering a Photoshop Element 8 class the last 2 Saturdays of January. I am going to take them after my Nikon class. I guess I should not tell you all this because now you may expect me to have beautiful pictures on my blog. I am afraid I won’t have such lovely patterns as on yours.

Hi, Vagabonde, I don't have Photoshop -- just PICASA which is a program you can download free. It allows you to crop and adjust saturatiuons and make a few simple changes and also to make collages and web albums. I post my blogs through Picasa. I've had this program for several years now and am very happy with it.

Have fun at the Nikon workshop! Wish I were there!
