High Water

After the rains it hurries down the mountain.

Two branches join and then a third.

Dashing over the rocks, the water tumbles downhill.

Where it soon finds the river.

High water suits the geese just fine.

The waters go racing on to Tennessee.

High water on low land.

We have almost (as a species?) forgotten that spring floods meant providing great nutrients to the land, and crops planted on flood plains were so hardy. All this avoidance of floods with dikes and walls, just keeps the rivers flowing away with all the deposits becoming estuaries instead. The engineers might have gone a bit too far.

The pasture where the geese are grazing is the recipient of lots of good nutrients.
