The Fruits of Our Labors

A small, quiet Labor Day celebration here at the farm -- we had a hankering for fried chicken so, to keep the heat out of the kitchen, John set up the gas burner on the back porch.

I made potato salad with freshly dug potatoes. . .

And beans vinaigrette with fresh picked beans (those Purple Royalty beans just keep on bearing. . . )

Deviled eggs courtesy of the laying flock . . .

And Justin brought up some corn from their garden. It was just the three of us as Claui was out of town at a wedding.

We were blessed with a nice rain -- things had been getting a little dry -- and a rainbow at dusk. Kind of a perfect ending to a pleasant Labor Day.

Great way to celebrate Vicki. Home grown must be a real treat and I love how John set up the chicken outside.

Happy Labor Day.

Looks like an awesome day at your place!

Is that a #11 cast iron skillet? That is my mission to find one now, I have 12, 10, and so on. But I'm lacking a #11.

Cast iron is the best, we cook in it all the time.

Have a great labor day!

It sounds good. It's great that you can make a whole meal out of your own produce.

You’ve got willow pattern plates!
I’ve been collecting willow pattern for years.

I hope you had a lovely holiday.
