That made me laugh out loud! Miss Susie Hutchins really looks totally disgusted in that last photo. (Beautiful quilt, BTW).

Those pictures are SO expressive of your words, Vicki :) What a lovely smile you have given me to start my day! It's so bleak outdoors...windy, overcast, cold :(

Love your bedroom setting ;)

BTW Have you come across the 'Simon's Cat' films?

I have read all your updates since I went on my trip – all 30 of them. I liked your post on fiction reading. I enjoy reading memoirs and history (just finished the dairy of a French Jewish young woman during the WW2) but I think fiction enriches one’s life. In Georgia where I have few friends, books are my friends, all types of books.

The quilts in your posts were beautiful. When we moved to our house in 1976 our next door neighbor was an 85 years old widow. She told us among other thing that her family had a plantation. Her grandfather’s cow had been killed by Yankees at the end of the war and she had been the first woman in Cobb County to own a car. She spent all day making quilt covers then gave them away to family and friends. She gave me three beautiful ones but I never could find someone to finish the quilt, to sew the backing that is. So they are well packed away, but it is a shame as they are so pretty.
I think your pen name Vickie Lane is nice also because it can translate well. In French though it is not Lane as laine (wool) but the “a” is like the a in cat.

You have many beautiful pictures in your posts. I was looking for a place, not too far, for us to spend 2 or 3 days for our anniversary next month. I thought about going down to Savannah, but there would be many people and it would be very hot. Now I think we should drive up to North Carolina. Do you have any suggestions as to a small town with beautiful scenery and not too touristy?

You never seem to have problems with fur! I battle it all the time with my two and it always seems to win. I don't know how you do it. Of course, mine never go outside, that may be part of it.

Re quilt -- even though ( or perhaps because) I'm a quilter, I've never put a quilt on our bed. For one thing, we don't have curtains and quilts WILL fade in sunlight. And then there's the fact that critters do get on the bed. But now we're down to only 3 dogs, one of whom never gets on the bed and I decided to throw caution to the winds and buy a cheap imported quilt. I found this on sale at a discount store (T.J. Maxx) and really love it because the fabric and pattern ars like an antique quilt. When it fades, it will still look pretty too.

As for the cats, they are pretty clean but Eddie is leaving tufts of fur everywhere. I removed them, Helen, before I took the picture.

Vagabonde -- I'll email you tomorrow with some suggestions. I've had to ask a friend for help here.

Jennyfreckles -- Popping over to take a look at Simon's cat now.

Ha! I am surprised they are on the same bed together! By the way, I have the same hippo (blue on your dresser)...it was my mom's. I can't remember where it came from...any info on it would be appreciate! Christie Russell, Drew's aunt

Christie, the blue hippo is a reproduction of an Egyptian one in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. His name is William and he's something of a mascot for the MMA --- his picture shows up on scarves and t shirts and tote bags, to name just a few.

I find a cat grooming somehow reassuring. A ritual of life. My 18 year old cat gave it up. A perk of old age?
