Sky Magic

For the first time in 632 years, the December Solstice will coincide with a complete lunar eclipse.  But, wait, that's not all! It's a full moon and there's a meteor shower. And it's happening tomorrow! Read all about it HERE

With so many celestial events coinciding, one is tempted to hope for miracles. . .

Oh, what a magical night December 21st should be! But, I probably won't be able to see any of it because it will still be raining here in CA! (I'm pretty sure this is the only time you'll ever hear me complain about rain).

Vicki, the haiku and photos in your post previous to this one took my breath away. Beautiful writing and beautiful photos!

There are certainly those who need a miracle, just now. Wouldn't it be nice if the heavens delivered?

I certainly hope I get to enjoy some of this, BUT we have a storm moving in tonight ... just wait and see, that's all I can do.

Oh Vicki we need some miracles down here. Jane from my pear tree house went in for surgery today and she needs all the help she can get. The girls have put together a moon watch each night to send her some power for the fight ahead perhaps you can send her some from this amazing event.

Oh, I always hope for miracles---after all, they happen every day, whether we notice them or not.

Lovely pictures!

Wow, I'd heard about the eclipse, solstice, and full moon - but not the meteor shower. Crazy! I hope our skies are clear.

Margaret -- here in NC, the eclipse begins around 1:30 AM. It will be a quarter to three before it's a full eclipse. This link

http://shadowandsubstance.com/2010%201221%20lun%20ecl/EST.jpg

has more information.

Victoria -- our skies will very likely be cloudy too -- but I still like knowing that all that's going on in a kind of stately heavenly dance.

Brian -- those colors are me playing with the color saturation to go for a magical effect.

Julienne, I will keep Jane in my heart and send my best intentions.

I always hope for miracles, Vicki, but yes, this seems like a gilded invitation to that hope. --Angela Dove

What an interesting celestial event! Heavens conspiring and calming?

Each day of life is a little miracle. We have clouds here, so no sightings to be had. But, hopefully, you will see it and tell us all about it.

Wow. Big day tomorrow. I was only aware of the Solstice.

Snow due in tonight here in Central KY. Just have to stay still and feel the celestial action.
Stunning photographs!

We are snow cloud bound and under winter storm warnings until tomorrow mid day, so there will be no eclipse or meteors for us this year. We have been lucky to see a few of our own already, so we'll get by looking at photos from friends around the world who had a clear view. My heart is lighter already knowing the longest night is leaving us for another year. Two nights ago, after a light sparkly snowfall that had me mesmerized at daylight, I walked the dog under the almost full moon and the opalescent bluefire sparkles all around me gave me goosebumps. I soaked it up and will remember that picture in my head forever. Thanks for sharing your sky magic pictures with us.
ps speaking of magical, I am 2/3 finished reading The Day of Small Things, and I am loving everything about your story and your characters and the way you write. Simply beautiful, and I can't wait but don't want to finish.

Your blog header is beautiful.

The moon looks eerie here. A miracle or two in this world we call home would be nice right now.
