A Thing of Beauty . . .

"A thing of beauty is a joy forever:
Its loveliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness . . ."

from Endymion by John Keats

Some beauty is more fleeting. Kate the Donkey is shedding her winter coat and emerging, for the summer, sleek and lovely as a race horse. (Well, possibly I exaggerate. But I think she's beautiful.)

The tiger lilies are here for their brief moment of glory.

And this evening, the beauty of the mists on the eastern mountains changed constantly.

But the view -- ah, may it remain a joy forever!

I have lived here for over 30 years now and am still in awe of the beauty of our ever changing mountains!

I've only lived in the NC mountains for 12 years. My very favorite thing about being here is being able to prop myself up in our bed with a mess of fluffy pillows and a cup of coffee and watch the sun rise. There is just nothing lovelier than a mountain sunrise.

And I think Kate the Donkey is quite lovely too!!

AND I like your new blog picture, Vicki.

An Earthly Paradise, these mountains!

Thanks, Kaye, re header. I've decided to update it from time to time now.

Vickie, you're sighting of the young girl with the hoe just gave me the shivers! What a perfect inspiration for a book character.

It was pretty neat, Willow -- as was the experience you blogged about today over at your place.

I'll have to do a post on the girl with a hoe.

I agree, an earthly paradise,
these mountains of yours!

I remember one particular fall day, coming over your mountains, counting almost a dozen until they got lost in their blue horizons. Unforgettable!

It's a wonderful place, Merisi -- but there are no Viennese pastries nor elegant cafes such as you show in your pictures. Ah, well, one can't have everything. . .
