Thoughts and Prayers

The devastating floods in Texas have spawned so many questions and not many answers. Did DOGE's cuts at the national weather service contribute to the tragedy? Does anyone rational believe Dear Leader's suggestion that somehow this was Biden's fault? What about MTG's belief that nefarious players are controlling the weather?

Something that leaped out at me was those folks who asserted that prayer was responsible for saving the little girls who survived.

What about those who didn't--despite all the hopes and prayers?  What kind of god would play favorites like that?

Any loss of life is tragic--but the pictures of those little girls--just Josie's age--break my heart. And I think of the grieving parents, wondering why their prayers weren't heard.

Just read a post stating that many others, apart from the girls, were taken. I hadn’t herd that elsewhere.

The news crews were out there in the flooded areas pretty quickly. It is certainly sad that the floods caused so much loss...of life and property. For us here in western NC it also hits home as a reminder of our experiences last fall. I was glad to see trucks loading up in Asheville to go to Texas, from people who had experienced similar struggles. Prayers offered are often unanswered...which is why I don't so much believe in them...besides how they provide an energetic impulse for good... sort of like magnetism or electrical powers. I admire birds for their knowledge and dependence on earth's magnetism...for instance. Not comparing loss of young lives to birds, just the efforts of prayers as something that is still worth while.

Now it turns out that Kerr County had been asking the state for funding for years to prevent such a catastrophe, but proposals were turned down every time. Now Gov. Abbott says this is not the time to discuss funding for the future. They're too busy searching for bodies. They'll talk about it when the legislature convenes in late July. But will the funding be denied yet again?

'Thoughts and prayers' is trotted out so easily and is so trite. Those floods look horrific and still people deny climate change!
