Ah, Agatha . . .it's been a long and enjoyable relationship, but this particular book is headed for recycling--as soon as I finish it.
I didn't get into Christie till about 1966, when John and I were living in in what had been his late grandparents house. John's grandmother had been a big fan and she had left dozens of paperbacks which I quickly adopted. And soon I was hooked.
Christie's twisty plots pulled me in as I tried to guess whodunnit. I soon found that I was only lukewarm on Poirot but loved Miss Marple and Tommy and Tuppence.
This particular book was published in 1922. It's fun, if a little (a lot) farfetched. But it suits my current reading mood--old familiar favorites. I'm also listening to the Lord Peter Wimsey mysteries and reading The Dark Is Rising.
Comfort reading. Anything to avoid the news.

Ah, the News. I am seeing too much of it.
Comfort reading (the "Mrs Polifax" books by Dorothy Gilman, say), but also comfort watching. My partner and I have scheduled Christmas movies for every weekend in December, as is our custom -- mostly new ones, but _Klaus_ (animation, Netflix) has become an annual holiday tradition for us. Christmas Day itself is reserved for our annual re-watch of _It's a Wonderful Life_.
Oh, and _Nightmare Before Christmas_, which we schedule mid-to-late November to mark the transition from one holiday to the other.
(p.s.--The Netflix animation _That Christmas_ is a charmer, if you're looking for more Christmas movies. We're tempted to make that, too, an annual treat.)
I love reading Christie too. Not sure why you didn't warm to Poirot. He's a favorite.
Christie is amazing. I have one of hers in my collection, but not this one. I actually just got a fresh cabinet painting for my bookshelf and am wanting to add more books to it. I think I'll start with this! Thanks for sharing!
