I grew up with yonder being used as noun and yon as adjective, pronoun, and on par with “where”, “there, “that”. It always was used in a directional sense. Even though it is described as being poetic, the people around me considered it everyday useful. I love seeing it being used. There are parts of our Americanized English (esp in the mtns and piedmont of NC) I hope do not go by the homogenized wayside.
