If I, if I have been unkind I hope that you can just let it go by If I, if I have been untrue I hope you know it was never to you
One of my very favorite songs by one of my very favorite singers. Always seems to creep up on "most played" on my iPod along with "Sisters of Mercy." Great photograph of the chilly birds.
I had heard OF Leonard Cohen (mentioned repeatedly in somebody's novels . . . can't remember whose), but this mention got me to go to youtube and listen to the song. I'm going to go find a good sturdy limb and sling a rope over it now... I would have adored his music when I was still drinking.
My Dad once told me that when he left for his Army duty in 1961 there were tons of pigeons all over the mountains. When he came home in 1965, they were gone, victims of DDT. I've watched them return slowly but steadily. And I rejoice each time I see flocks of them. I do wonder why they chose such a cold, windy spot to "rest"...but it does allow them to fluff up to maximum fluffage! Thank you for sharing the image. (Now to hunt down that song...)
June! Do take doen that rope. LC's voice sounds depressed but, in general, his are songs of someone who's been through the hard times. looking back from the other side. I love Sisters of Mercy and Suzanne and Famous Blue Raincoat . . . and I love his voice.
OMG, Vicki, you're a SOM fan too?? We must be twins in another life or something. And, June, I have 20+ years and I love Leonard Cohen. I also would have loved him in my drinking days, but now I can enjoy him without the maudlin crying and cutting myself :)
I am a Leonard Cohen addict with all of his music including his poetry (which includes the lyrics to all of his songs and go on binges where I play everything, cry a little bit and go out and stare at the moon. I love Suzanne and Closing Time and Dance Me to the End of Love....and of course, Hallalouwa (spelling, but that is the way it sounds. Thank you for this post.

They look quite plumped up, like they might be cold.
I love that, this song and Leonard Cohen!
Rest stop on the flight south for winter?
Sorry, I don't know the song you're referring to. I do love Leonard Cohen, but birds on a wire? Fluffy pigeons? ???
Bird on a Wire is the title.
'Like a bird on a wire
Like a drunk in a midnight choir
I have tried, in my way,
To be free . . ."
They are pigeons and they are year round residents down at the bridge --- and they are fluffed because it's cold -- 19 F last night.

oh my how I love listening to him
what is it about his voice?
I'll bet he's near 90
I get blackbirds on the wire here and always think of that song.
Back to say: All the way to the store and back, I sang that song. It gets less sad with each repetition. I guess I'll go out and take down the rope.

And, Bethany, thank you for telling me this -- it will add an extra something every time I see these guys!
