I have good memories of picking Carolina blackberries! They used to grow along the fence lines of the property when I was young, back when the property had apples, crab apples, plums, berries and a nice garden. I sure miss those days.

We are going up to Oregon to visit our son and daughter-in-law the end of August. That's
later than usual so we can get some ripe black berries. Oregon must have later maturing bbs

It was delicious but the texture was more like a dumpling. A little gooey. Still we choked down a lot of it and finished up the rest for breakfast. Here's the recipe (originally for peach cobbler.)

3/4 c. flour
pinch salt
2 tsp baking powder
3/4 c sugar
3/4 c milk
pinch cinnamon
1/2 c butter
2 c berries mixed with 1/4 c sugar (or more, depending on how sweet the berries are)

Melt the butter in an 8x8 baking pan. Mix all the other ingredient except the berries together till smooth then pour the batter over the melted butter. DO NOT STIR. Carefully spoon the berries over then bake 1 hour at 350 F. Heavy cream or ice cream is a nice topper.
