Driving Through Narnia

I awakened yesterday morning in the Blair House's Spring Suite and looked through the lace curtains to see that winter had made a surprise visit to Troy. An inch or more of snow frosted the trees, the lawn, and the iron railings of the fence but fortunately the roads were clear and I headed back home, a little reluctant to leave this magnificent old house.

As I drove, enjoying the fairy-tale surroundings, by an odd coincidence I was listening to The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe -- in which Narnia is locked in the icy clutches of the White Witch, whose powers have caused it to be always winter but never Christmas.

It was a fine weekend, a beautiful drive -- and good to be home again.

Seems so peaceful... I long to take a drive through scenery like this on a snowy day. Living in Egypt, there is little chance... of snow or a peaceful drive.

It is beautiful, indeed. but this morning I found my husband sitting by the dining room window looking disconsolately at the snow as he leafed through a seed catalogue muttering, "Tomatoes . . . beans . . . warm, loose dirt . . ."

But Adel or Robyn, whichever you are, welcome! I've seen by the little map on the lower right that I have an occasional visitor from Egypt -- so that must be you!

Did you stumble on to this blog or how did you happen to find it? My friend Sophie in Paris was recently in Egypt . . . do you know her?

(I'm still inordinately fascinated by this World Wide Web thing, as you can see.)

And still somewhat clueless -- I realized I could click on your name and go to your profile and thence to your blog and now I know a lot more about you!

Ahh, technology!
