Too Much Text Begging!

I have, in the past, donated to various candidates and progressive/liberal political groups. As they say, no good deed goes unpunished and now I am the recipient of multiple daily scare/begging text messages. Beep, beep, beep, goes my phone way too many times a day from these guys.

Yes, I know that we're in a dire situation. But the frantic tone of these messages is really annoying--We're begging! My jaw hit the floor when I saw . . ., This is a hard thing to say. . ., Have you switched parties? We need your input for this to be complete . . . Important survey! Your voice is missing!

And the thing is, maybe they want my voice but what they really want is my money. Answer the survey and hit SUBMIT but nothing happens till you fill out the amount of your donation.

So I'm taking a hard line: texting STOP and blocking the number.

No doubt I'll still do some donating. But not to these pests.

My number is unlisted, so when pressured to give a number I'd either make one up or give them a safe one that wasn't me. (For a while, I used the storytime number from the local library, which I had memorized because I'd call them late at night when I couldn't sleep so I could listen to a story.) But, once, in a fit of semi-honesty, I was daft enough to give them my work number. With predictable results.

The first time one of those people called me at work, I explained it was a work number, please take me off the list. The second time, I made it clear that, if they ever called me again, I would never again donate to their candidate/party because I considered such calls harassment. And the third time, I explained, very calmly and very politely, that I had asked them to stop, and that I would now make good on my threat never to donate again.

They never called again. But I never donated again.

(It helps to know that I hate, loathe, and despise telephones. Long story, but for me they exist *only* for emergencies, including ones like "I'm here, I'm fine, the tornado only hit the other side of the street, but all the trees are down blocking the street so I'm gonna be a bit late coming over ..." My phone is permanently on mute. And will stay that way. Period.)

Thankfully, I don't get actual begging calls, just texts. But they are annoying enough.

So much exaggerating in this world to get our attention.
