In Lothlorien

In the works of  J. R. R. Tolkien,  Lothlórien,  known for its golden mallorn trees,
is the fairest forest realm of the Elves  remaining in Middle-earth during the Third Age.

Golden Wood

The Hidden Land

Dwimordene

Such a magical place has many names.
It magically appeared outside my back door a few days ago.

Beautiful! Funny, our daughter dropped by for a coffee and was describing how the woodland at the bottom of her garden appeared to have changed overnight. I'll need to pay a visit with my camera...soon!

The golden trees at my place lost thousands of leaves last night with the rain. Today is the first blustery day of a real fall day. Hope you are OK with the storm headed your way. -- barbara

Vicki, I hope that this magnificent golden kingdom will find a way to travel to other parts of our country, keeping well away from the coming arrival of the awesome Sandy.

Beautiful. I've read The Hobbit and The Trilogy ... well, I've been sitting here for a few minutes trying to remember exactly how many times I've read them, but I can't!

I do remember the first time I read them. It was 1969 and I was sitting by the fire in a cabin on a cliff high above the Pacific in Big Sur. I can still smell the scent of the ocean mixed in with the tang of the smoke from the fireplace. Thank you, Vicki, for bringing back that memory.

I read them long , long ago, Victoria -- I think in 1960, my freshman year of college-- and have reread them many times. The foggy , cool weather we're having today makes me want to begin again -- it seems the right time to begin and adventure I can enjoy while snug by the fire.
