Hints and Allegations

Hurricane season signals the coming of Fall in my part of the world.  We are about 300 miles from the coast and have felt no effects (not even rain, drat it) from Irene as she makes her way north.

I hope my blog friends at the coast are all safe -- Jean and Pepper come to mind. Bouncin' Barb has put up a post saying that she is fine.

We have a  sailor friend visiting and he's been on the phone with folks at the NC coast, hearing stories of flooding, downed trees, and boats in places boats don't belong.  At the moment he thinks his boat (which is also his home) is okay.
Here on the mountain, after Friday's sullen heat and oppressive humidity, our air is drier and slightly cooler and the evenings are delicious -- another sign of the season.  The wood piles that John and Justin have been working on all summer are looking serious and the maples are beginning to send colorful reminders floating down.

There'll be plenty more hot days but how pleasant to feel that the worst is over!

That is one serious log pile!

That woodpile is a work of art and no doubt will become a cozy sanctuary for several field mice once your cold weather sets in!

This change in our weather is more then welcome!

That is a serious wood pile, but bet come spring there won't be much left.

we are on the back side of summer for sure...that is some woodpile...makes me think of the old house i used to live in that was wood heat only...lots of wood cutting in those days...lots of wind and a little sporadic rain here...my brother took a hit in richmond...but all alive...that is what matters....

We're enjoying a beautiful day in east Tennessee while we wait for word from our friends in New England.

Fall is my favorite season - cool and beautiful. We used to go to the mountains in October for my mother's birthday, but, alas! the children's schooling has taken precedence.

We have survived half of the hurricane so far and the worst of the rain is over with only a foot of water in the basement. The power stayed on so all three pumps chugged away.

My prayers are for those who will be affected by the storm. It's been humid here too but the evenings are glorious! Wishing you well...Beautiful autumn leaf! Cathy

Intimations of Fall...looks like autumn will be very early here. The leaves are already turning gold.

I'm loving the hint of Fall in the air, too. I'm not a big coffee drinker, and I don't drink it all in the Summer. This week, I got the urge, and got the Keurig out, cleaned it all up, and had my first cup in months. How's that for a sign of Fall?

Fall is coming here in central KY as well. The Buckeyes have already shed their leaves. Color is not that far behind.

Autumn or fall used to be my favourite season too, but now I am in the fall of my life I feel sad and a bit depressed. All day I have been thinking of the people who have to face Irene. We see Irene's devastating power destroying everything that's in its way. May God help them.

We are all so dependent on the weather, our mood usually too...

Hey Vicki,
Thanks for thinking of us! Irene's eye went right over us, but here on the coast, most of the damage was trees down. We are fine, and so are Pepper, Rod, and their cats. We even had our power back in less than 48 hours. Since most of the county had lost power, I was really impressed with the efficiency. Unfortunately, lost most of three fishing piers at the beach. Irene came on my birthday - I figured my best present was that we were safe!

It has cooled off some in Missouri, thank goodness. The weatherman warned that we have at least one more heat wave in store for us later this week. Drat!

That wood pile is very impressive.
