A Convocation of Chairs

What in the world? I thought as I caught a glimpse of this gathering in the front yard of or rental house. Party games? An upcoming  meeting of people who don't actually want to talk to each other? Some sort of summoning of spirits?

What do you think?

Funny, like all the comments !
A meeting of ghosts, last night ...

A fantastic short story written by Guy de Maupassant tells the departure of the whole furniture from a house, seen by a frightened narrator . Is he insane ?

Some serious cleaning before company comes or the seasons change? Eliminating what is needed/not needed?

Art. Chair performance art.

Vicki, you asked where I am in my travels. Off the road now and settling in to old hometown of Clayton, Georgia. I hope to be able to attend one of your workshops over the next year!

An extra few chairs that were lying around in the house, with people always stubbing their toes in them, until someone decided to move them outside...? :D

Serious sit down.
Or a new meaning to 'take a seat'?

At first glance, a whimsical musical chairs...then it became two-by-two...definitely a mystery!

Have been away, now playing catch up. Just read about "your tomato sandwich." Is your recipe for mayonaise written somewhere in your blog? Would love to try it.

Mayonnaise

Ba and Virginia and Frances all had special mayonnaise makers – tall glass cylinders with the recipe embossed on them and with metal plungers. These recipes called for egg yolks only. This recipe is a slight adaptation, suited to a blender. It tastes just the same – really, really good.
2 eggs
A pinch or more of cayenne pepper (to taste)
1 tsp. prepared mustard (Ba used yellow; I use Dijon)
Juice of one fresh lemon (about 4 Tbs.)
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. sugar
2 c. canola oil (Ba used ordinary Wesson oil.)
Put all ingredients, except for 1 ¾ c. oil, into blender. Blend 5 seconds on low. Keep blender running and add remaining oil in a slow thin stream. Stop blender and stir mayo with rubber spatula, scraping the sides well. Blend again till good consistency.

Thanks, Vicki...that will be my project for tomorrow.

Okay, the prosaic truth. The chairs were being stored in the damp-ish basement and our tenants had put them out to air, prior to cleaning the mildew off them.

But I prefer the wilder speculations.

Well, I'm glad it's that simple. One might have though the whole of the eastern USA had run away from Irene, chairs askew just as they left them.
