This was Marigold when we brought her home almost two years ago.
And here she is today, a mother and a milk cow.
Ali Ali has watched the goings on of the past few days with unabashed disapproval. Why, he asks, is this silly cow getting all the attention? Why are my people spending all their time with her? After all, it's all about ME, isn't it?Once they got a whiff of the fresh warm milk, Ali Ali and Otis both decided that perhaps there was something to all of this cow foolishness. Now if Claui would just set that pail down so a dog could get his face in it . . .

Love your take on a dog's life on a farm - love your photos too.
I had a bit of catching up to do Vicki..and there has been a birth! Wonderful photos. Beautiful mother and baby. Poor dog..nose out of joint!
I think your dogs are lucky to live on your farm. Love the pictures especially the baby calf.
......:-) Hugs
When I see all your wonderful photos about your farm, your garden, your library , about your job as a writer, as a housewife and so on, I wonder if a day only counts 24 hours for you, and when you sleep !
nice. mabe they could get just a splash...they do seem rather intent...
I have loved following Marigold's adventures. She is beautiful and so is her calf. I envy you (in a nice way) to be able to be so close to these wonderful animals. I'm blowing a kiss over the pond for mother and babe.
Blessings, Star
I also got a kick out of looking at farm life through a dog's eyes. Isn't it funny that they think we live in their world instead of them living in ours? LOL
Wise dogs, to know that there is good stuff in that pail.
Love this! All of your animals are wonderful. Great photos.
Ali Ali is such a brat -- his snub little nose is badly out of joint.
Miss Yves -- quite soon Justin and Claui will do almost all the milking. I do sleep -- believe me -- and I don't take pictures of the many things that are left undone around here.
I love that first picture of Marigold. What a cute face! Your dogs are so shiny. They must get a bit of that fresh milk.
Marigold is such a beauty!
Your photographs make tough days so much better!
Thank you,
Kath
All this is just too fun! Thank you, Vicki, for sharing it with us.
Great pictures! I loved the ones in the previous post of Mama Marigold and baby Bubba, too.
I'm loving "The Day of Small Things" (except for one chapter - I'm sure you know which one I mean. I can see why it was necessary, though).
Oh, reminds me of my days raising registered Angus for 4H and FFA. One of my bulls, "BeeBee" grew to around 3000 pounds and was a gentle as a puppy. We shared many quiet afternoons together just sitting in the pasture...

Ahwwwwwwwwwww! Fresh milk! You know I'm green with envy right now knowing you're feeling all smug with them chickens in the freezer and that milk in the fridge! HA!
XOXO
Awww...how nice of you to acknowledge the others so they don't feel so neglected..haha. So sweet. Love the pictures. Cows are beautiful.
I'm so glad you all are enjoying the ongoing saga of Marigold. She is settling down nicely and no longer requires a four person pit crew at each milking -- I actually slept in this morning till 7:30!
Victoria -- very necessary, alas!
Rick - We had a Brahma cow once, a beautiful thing who, if I sat down by her would lay her head in my lap.
Pretty smug, Carol!
I looked at your cow with envy – all this wonderful milk! The last time I had fresh milk directly from a cow was in 1971. We had gone for a week’s vacation in he Pennsylvania farm country, on a farm. It tasted so good, I can still remember it after all those years.
Lovely rural atmosphere, Vicki! I love the country side. Towns are very crowded in my country and noisy too.
How I miss fresh mild from my younger days!!!!! It was something that I adore to drink...

I've never been a fan of drinking milk. But I love it in my coffee and I ADORE homemade butter, yoghurt, and cheese. And fresh heavy cream -- oh wonderful!
