10-10-10

Today is being called Singularity Sunday. There are those who think that, due to the date, Something is likely to happen.

I am charmed by the fact that 10 10 10 in binary code equals 42 in base 10. (No, I didn't know this on my own -- I learned it HERE.)
So what's the big deal about that, I hear you asking. Well, as all true fans of Douglas Adams' magnificent The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe  know, 42 is the answer to The Meaning of Life, the Universe, and Everything.

So perhaps as the day unfolds, the meaning of the question will emerge.  Or not.
Till then, I'm pretty excited with the picture I caught at the river yesterday of what I think must be an osprey.

And yes, we're beginning to get that fall color.

Do let me know if the day brings any auspicious events or revelations your way.

I'm more excited by your osprey than the date! It's a red letter day if you see one of those in UK; in fact you have to visit certain sites where they live. The Fall colours are lovely too.

I agree with jennyfreckles. Ospreys, over here, are a rare and beautiful sight, indeed.

It's not a great pic of the osprey == if indeed that's what it is. I saw a big bird soaring and tried to follow it with my camera. Only when I got the picture on my computer and cropped it down did I think it might be an osprey -- I invite correction -- a big hawk of some kind?

Good idea about the towel, Brian!

I'm still puzzling over why 42 is the meaning of life, but while I muse, thanks for the nice photos!

Vicki - I've had no auspicious events or revelations today; other than the fact that the two of us are thinking along the same lines with our blogging! too funny.

You have loads more color on your side of the mountains than we do. Gorgeous over there, and wonderful pictures - thank you!

So far my 10 10 10 has been a good day but nothing out of the ordinary has happened....actually, that means it has been a very good day! Hope you enjoyed your Sunday Vicki....xv

That Osprey (or whatever it might be) is really beautiful. I think it is an Osprey. I didn't know about 42 being the meaning of life. So far nothing unusual, but then the day is not yet over.

sorry, nothing doing. the answer is 42 and that's all there is to it.

Let's get back to nature as we see it every day around us, because Life, The Universe and Everything we cannot fathom.

Our grandson turned 9 on 10-10-10 which made it a memorable day even if he didn't turn 10. Hope the fall colors last a couple weeks; we'll be up that way the last week in October but it looks like we'll just miss them.
42 must have some significance. Wasn't it one of the significant numbers on Lost?

My University of South Carolina Gamecocks were moved up to #10 on college football list on 10-10-10 after the amazing defeat of Alabama. Believe me, that is pretty amazing.

Clueless here until you brought it to my attention! Just back from two nights at the lake (no internet! gasp!) and the cats, dogs, sheep and chickens have all survived without me (due to my Mom's excellent care). I'll keep my eyes peeled though as the day isn't over yet!

Well, 10:10 PM has rolled by with no signs or wonders. Probably just as well.

The 42 thing is from Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (book, radio show, TV show, movie -- take your pick.) A giant computer was created to find the answer to the question of Life, the Universe, and everything. The computations took millennia and when at last the descendants of the original askers of the question gathered to receive the answer, they were told that it was 42. And that perhaps the question should have been worded a bit more precisely.

Phyllis - your husband made me laugh out loud.

Don't know about Lost, Lynne.

Congratulations, Helen!

Glad you got a tiny break, Tammy!

visiting from Deanna's journal; awesome picture of the osprey! Nothing exciting happened to me on this date, but in the local news, a baby was born at 10:10 a.m. on 10/10/10 to a mother who didn't think she would ever have children. That seems awesome to me :)

No unusual or mysterious portents here...

Nice capture of the osprey in flight!

Your pictures of the day are truly special, outright gorgeous!

Funny, the day came and went, and I did not even once contemplate about the meaning of it all. It felt special, yes, but for reasons that easily get lost in the big universe, like being able to walk through the rose garden in the early morning light and that the photo shoot in the afternoon worked out well. So, it was a special day, with less stress than the previous ones. Thank you, Universe! ;-)

We also have had an osprey. It dove into a neighbor's pond and ate about five of his rather large goldfish. They must be migrating. Well, I did get to ride my horse on 10/10/10....maybe that is the meaning of life.
