Refreshment of the Soul . . .

Another beautiful day dawning and time for a little refreshment of the soul . . .
Not reading nor writing but pulling weeds, re-potting some plants, and generally tidying our little entryway garden . . .
The bearded iris are coming on strong -- such lovely, graceful things. The hostas are lush  -- the slugs must not be out yet.  The yellow climbing rose by the green house door has its first bloom. . .

The greenhouse snake kept an eye on me as I busied around in her domain -- at one point when I reached for a potted plant that was right next to her, she got all flustered and slid to the floor, out the open door, and into the flowerbed beneath the greenhouse windows.

I shut the door (to keep humming birds out) and went on with my weeding.  A quarter of an hour later, I went back to get another plant from the green house and there she was, enjoying life atop my night-blooming cereus.

Obviously, she has a private entrance.

That close-up of the bearded iris is stunning. Your greenhouse snake obviously feels very much at home where it is.

We've had overnight rain here and it's a very green morning as a result.

I too love the iris with the dew on it. It all looks idyllic - but I couldn't cope with a snake (even if it's harmless!)

Touching plants and dirt early in the morning is refreshing right down to where you live, isn't it?
I like your little resident snake. You've made a nice little environment for her.

Beautiful photos, as always. Thanks for sharing them! Does Ms. Snake have a name?

That first rose is a thrill isn't it? NO SNAKE for me though! :)
Are you getting any of this rain??

I've been gone to the outer banks for a week-and I missed my daily dose of Vicki Lane : ) I'm all caught up now though. The stack of books below looks so tempting-I'll make sure to be around for the giveaways.

Nice to see how lovely and green it is at your place-much the same here!

Hi vicki, back after an absence. You wouldn't believe this--a groundhog got chased up into the engine of one of our cars---chewed up all sorts of stuff--no brakes now. J. opened the hood and there he/she was. One of our dogs was nearly covered with oil from trying to get up in there. it's gone now, but we hope it doesn't come back and eat our garden. Surely not, what with three slobbering dogs waiting for it.

I simply don't believe that all these plants are at the stage you are showing them. It can't be, you've only just had the start of Spring, just like me.

Martin - yes, the snake is a permanent fixture.

And it is idyllic, jennyfreckles -- even Edenic -- hence the snake.

My favorite time too, Brian.

Come over for a visit, Pat and I'll give you some in about a month when they're through blooming.

Immensely satisfying, June!

She hasn't shared it with me, Jean. Serena would suit her though.

No rain for us yet, Carol. It keeps hitting the mountains and breaking up.

Welcome back, Tipper! How nice to get to the beach for a spell!

Thanks, Evalin! We do enjoy it!

What a mess, Kay! Poor thing must have been desperate.

Friko -- these pictures are all from the warmest spot on our property -- south-facing, protected, lots of stone -- a real sun trap. Plus we've had some unseasonably hot weather.

Your irises are wonderful as they find sporadic spots in the garden. So natural looking.

How lovely your flowers are. I have a few, but not many. The weather in Illinos is iffy. I hope to have some planted be next week-end.

Beautiful pictures, what a lovely garden you have!

Thanks, Paul, Jon Lee, and Alexis -- it's taken us 35 years to get the garden to this point -- my husband built our house in what used to be a tobacco patch so all the planting was done by us.
