Mother's Day

Here's to the beautiful Mother of us all.
With thanks for all she's given us . . . with apologies for what thoughtless children we've often been . . . and with hopes that we can mend our ways . . . clean up our messes . . . not fight with our brothers and sisters and cousins . . . play fair . . . share . . . all those things mothers ask of their children.

Beautifully said and superbly presented. The picture layout is gorgeous.

If Mother Earth never gave me anything more than fresh asparagus straight out of the ground, I would feel as grateful.

I like the roundness in this post's images.

What a thoughtful post. It makes me realise that all the schemes whereby city kids are taken out into the country (I saw one where they live on a farm for a week)must be worthwhile. It's hard to appreciate Mother Nature unless you really experience raw nature.

You're right, Vicki. Was there ever a more giving and forgiving mother?

So true, jennyfreckles! I have a friend who's deeply involved with a program called Muddy Sneakers -- getting school kids out into Nature to see and experience first hand.

Every generation seems to get farther and farther away from knowing where their food and water comes from and where their waste goes -- not a good thing.

happy mother's day to you.
A lovely post, very thoughtful and unusual. It's always about me and me and us, so refreshing to see that it can also be about the beginning of all things.

The creation of the great earth is more than anything we can ever comprehend, but we must appreciate it.

Mother Earth, how fitting!
I love your choice of pictures, all in blues in greens.
The asparagus spears freshly picked, what delight!

I am so lucky that the region around Vienna is famous for its asparagus, the white one especially - I never knew how good that could taste, until I moved here (from Rome and DC I only knew fresh green one).
I roasted a pound of green spears to go with my chicken for lunch. How do you prepare yours?

Many thanks, all of you! -- I missed talking about Earth Day so this seemed appropriate.

Merisi - I roast my asparagus with a little olive oil and salt or steam it lightly and then serve it with butter.
