Dogs That Would Drive

It's here!!
The giant collection of photos (over 14,000) all taken at more or less the same moment is available for viewing. Click on the globe over there>>> at the top of the sidebar and be prepared to linger...

Only the lack of opposable thumbs . . .
...and advance planning can stop them ...
Can't resist a quick dog story.

On Monday, Justin and Claui and Claui's folks were up for pizza night. We were crowded into the kitchen, lending the cook moral support. The corner bench was full: Nancy (Claui's mom), Maggie (canine queen of the universe) with her head in my lap, and Justin next to me. William, the little small dog in the picture just above was at my feet, whining urgently.

"Justin," I said, "Would you let William out? -- I would but I have a dog in my lap."

"Come on, William," said Justin, getting up and going to the front door.

William took a look at Justin . . . and a look at the seat he'd just vacated, then jumped up on the bench and curled up, having gotten what he'd wanted in the first place.

Cute story and pictures!

Wally had to go in for his yearly check-up yesterday and would have preferred to drive us , but no such luck ... he was our official 'back seat driver'.

Vicki, I'm a sucker for dog stories. I love the pictures and story of your friends. I think all pets have a certain urge to want to drive.

Years ago we moved from Texas to Pennsylvania and had our collie and our two Siamese cats in the car with us for the trip to our new home. We made a quick stop to let the dog out to go to the bathroom. My husband left the keys in the ignition as this was going to be a very quick stop. The cats jumped up to the drivers seat and the oldest cat (the clever one) put his paw on the lock button on the door and click, the doors were locked and we were locked out. He had the most smug look on his face, very pleased with himself. Fortunately one back door lock didn't go down for some reason and we could get back in the car. Whew.

Pets sure do make life interesting.

Your dogs are so cute. I think that dogs and cats both have so much personality and are so great to have as companions and friends. I can just imagine your dogs thinking those things. They are tricky when they want something, especially a favorite chair.

Alexis and Brian and anyone thinking about getting a dog- Dogs have always been a wonderful part of our life but I always caution folks thinking about a dog for the first time to think carefully -- a dog should be a lifetime commitment.

Too many people treat pets as disposable (I know because all three dogs in the picture were abandoned by their previous people.)

I hope you all find the dogs that will complete your families!

We used to have a Border Collie that paid such close attention to the driver that we felt sure he knew the entire sequence -- first gear, clutch, second gear, clutch . . .

Dogs rule! I sense a possible canine conspiracy afoot. Lovely photos.

Will have to catch up with the other 14,000 when I have a few moments in time.....all joined together!

Great pictures! I too love a good dog story. I think it's a hoot that William was able to manipulate you all to get his way. What a cutie. I think it's funny (well most of the time) how the cats are 'retraining' me on many things. At the time I don't even realize I've adjusted to what they want, just do it because I'm trainable, I guess. And we think we are the ones running the show! Ha.. And amen to the thinking about the life time committment aspect of pet owning before getting one...

Those dogs are way too cute and clever! :-)

And you put text into the pictures, bravissima!

Vicki Lane said...

Yep, Martin -- it's going to take more time than I have at the moment. But the few I've looked at are wonderful.

Too true, Tammy. Maggie often mentions that her staff is slow but trainable.

Even though I'm richly blessed with four, Willow, I miss those that are no longer with us.

Thanks, Jingle and Tipper!

Not yet, Deanna!

Re text, Merisi -- I'm almost as clever as the dogs -- though not nearly as cute. :-)

I have been accompanied all day by my two dogs and two guest dogs who visited with my friend. The two pairs of dogs know each other, see each other infrequently and usually out in the fields on walks. It was a lot of fun today watching them working out how to get along all indoors.

Clever little bugger, that William!

Love a great dog story nice looking hounds -- and yes I hear you the three animals I have now Velcro the dog Tigger, and the two cats - shadow one and two were all abandoned and two of them mistreated. It took a long time working with this dog to turn him around - but I am afraid if somethings happens to me he would die of a broken heart. My sons can not even pet sit him when I go away he is inconsolable.

Where is your picture located on the earth link? and which one did you chose? Was looking?

June, sounds as if the woozy is wearing off! Good deal! How nice to have a friend plus dogs to babysit!

Joanny -- I chose the open door pic that's in the sidebar beneath the globe. But I haven't had time to look for it -- assuming it made it in.

Well Vicki I am back from Baltimore – it was a great week there. When I came back I saw I had 805 posts to read. I dutifully started from the top and stopped last night at 485, this morning it was back to 515 as many folks write a post a day. I am back down to 348 but think I have to stop or I won’t finish my library book which is already overdue. I read all your posts and enjoyed your pictures. I like the iris pictures. I wish we had some here but we have too much shade I think. Our impatiens have grown a lot and have not been visited by squirrels, raccoons or any other friendly animal. I’ll have to write a post soon though because my last one was over a week ago. I was going to write one on my mom today as it would have been her 100 birthday – she was born on 5/12/1910 but I would have had to do a quick post so I rather wait until French Mother’s Day which is the last Sunday in May. I did manage to go to a secondhand book shop while in Baltimore and bought 2 poetry books and one mystery, it is called “A Haiku for Hanae” by James Melville, have you heard of this writer?

Welcome back, Vagabonde! No, I don't think I know that author.

We have four dogs, Star -- Maggie, William, Molly and Dan. The black brat in the car is my son's dog Ali Ali.
