CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS!?

Oh, dear.  I don't believe it. But the cover woes continue.

Now, after I've gotten used to Birdie with dark hair (not to mention rewriting the book to make her a brunette,) the folks at Bantam Dell Marketing have decided that maybe blond would sell better after all.

So they've come up with a new cover they're quite enthusiastic about. They've also insisted on a title change -- seems that Someone Important  felt that the title The Day of Small Things was a real yawn and wouldn't sell.

Arrgh!

I don't know . . . of course the name of the game is selling copies of the book. But this new look isn't exactly what I had in mind. . .

Oh, well . . . I'm only the author. What do I know?

They haven't gotten around to making the change on Amazon yet -- but for those of you who've pre-ordered The Day of Small Things, (for which, many, many thanks!) no need to re-order -- they'll just switch you over to Untamed Love.

 Happy April Fool's Day!

I'd forgotten all about the date and I fell for it totally! Just at the point where I was feeling really annoyed for you, the punchline.

Nice one Vicki. Happy April Fools Day to you too.

I read the "Goodweather Report" before I read this and fell for it completely. Boy, was I mad for you! I was halfway through a big rant to the Bantam Dell people before it dawned on me, LOL!

Oh boy! I bought tale the of woe and was composing a suitable response full of sympathy for your plight. LOL
The "new" cover does have a certain appeal.
Happy April Fools Day to you too!

Oh! Good one Vicki! I haven't flipped the calendar yet so you got me! I was about having a heart attack thinking they'd done that to your book.
The real cover however is perfect I think.

Dang, Vicki. You had me all worked up! I couldn't believe you would allow them to use that trashy cover to replace the beautiful one. Silly me. You got me this time.

Vicki Lane said...

Oh, tee hee! I have such fun doing this!

Many thanks for feeling annoyed on my behalf --

April Fish in French, Miss Yves? Do you all have the same custom of pranks?

It gets harder, Pat, with you long time readers...

Yes, that 'new' cover does have a certain perky appeal...

Thanks, Caryn!

Mountainwoman -- the sad truth is that if They wanted to do that to my cover, I'd be helpless to stop it. But They didn't, thank goodness!

And I had just warned my husband to be cautious because it's April Fools Day.... You got me too. Well, if you ever write a trashy novel, you have a cover ready!

*giggles*
*rofl*

You are already the second person who fooled me today! (You wouldn't want to know what that first person did to me!).

I must confess that I was incredulous, even a bit outraged about what "they" had done to your book (especially since I LOVE that title so much), but I TRUSTED you. *chuckles*

Thanks for the laugh!!!!
Happy April's Fool Day!

You are bad, Vicki. I was taken in like everybody else. Side note: I went to Amazon to look at your book and noticed Sharyn McCrumb has a new one coming out. Her cover looks like a picture out of one of your windows.

Hee! You had me going there for a minute. Thanks for the giggles, Vicki!

I should have known you'd be up to your old tricks! Wasn't it Pamela Anderson last year? I've been meaning to tell you that I saw the cover on my Amazon the other day and just LOVE IT ! :)

OH, my Goodness....I read and reread your post and then the lists of what others were reading and went back to the post kinda unbelieving the difference in covers and titles. Then I saw the very end....what a relief it is not true!

Yeah, I read the Goodweather Report first too, and fell for it big time. Totally outraged that they were going to change your clever and catchy title! ;-)

Hahahaha - what a delightful post to read first thing in the morning (after I got over my incredulity at what editors might do). Great joke!

Vicki Lane said...

It might be fun to write a trashy novel, Jean!

Oh, but it's such fun, Kaye!

What do they call April Fool in Vienna, Merisi? Miss Yves mentioned poisson d'avril.

Helen -- Yes, I'm looking forward to Sharyn's new one!

Can't help myself, Willow!

Pam couldn't make it this year, Carol. I think that's a great aunt of hers on the cover.

Gotcha, Anonymous!

I love the outrage, Tammy!

Thanks, Peg! Of course, editors are capable of almost anything...

I totally fell for it! :)

No, I can't. Thought you'd catch us out, did you?

Mind you, the 'new' cover has a lot in its favour, that the 'old' one hasn't.

Vicki Lane said...

Hey, Tori -- I've done a post similar to this for three April Fools Days now -- I always manage to catch a few.

Yes, Friko, that other cover might gain me a whole new readership!

Hi Vicki,

Just popping by to congratulate you on the Everday Goddess award. Well deserved! You certainly had me feeling disgruntled for you; I can well imagine such antics by publishers! Hope the book is a huge success, despite having the wrong title and cover! :0)

Tipper said...

I totally bought it-till the end : )

Vicki Lane said...

Many thanks, Everyday Goddess! Alas, I've had to be strong and quit accepting awards because of the time involved in passing them on. I am honored, however, that you chose to include me!

Thank you, Derrick -- I'm hoping that the cover will do what it's supposed to do!

Tipper --Tee hee!
