A Birthday

"....and of my threescore years and ten,
Sixty-six will not come again . . ."
The stunned looking two year old at the head of the table is me, celebrating, if that's the word, my second birthday back in 1945.
My, how time flies when you're having fun!

Back in high school, a friend of mine (Sheila King Sanford -where are you?) wrote the following verse:

Three score years and ten,
The allotted span for men.
Early go or lately stay,
On my tombstone will it say
2012 or 2010?

At the time, 2010 didn't even seem like a real date -- more the stuff of science fiction. But here it is.

I'm guessing birthday greetings are in order? If so, many happy returns!

My step-brother, rather insensitively suggested that we are now those family members we used to avoid. I sincerely hope he's wrong!

Happy Birthday! Hope you have a fun day!

I'll have to go check out your books next time I'm at Barnes and Noble. I love mysteries and sci fi.

Glad I found your blog.

Happy Birthday to you Vicki! Hope you have a great day.

Thank you, Martin -- true enough about those older family members though, as you say, I'm hoping he's wrong.

And welcome, Callie! I'll have a look at your blog -- chickens, quilting -- all stuff I enjoy. But now I'm going back to bed. I'm up earlier than usual, having just bathed a dog that managed to get herself skunked in the wee hours!

And thanks, Pat!

Have you tried finding your friend on FaceBook?

Happy Birthday, Vicki. It's always nice to do something special for your birthday. I wonder if that's what the 2-year-old in the picture is thinking. "Well, parties and pink dresses are all very well, but I'd rather be deskunking the dog."

I see that in 1945, hair ribbons were the absolute latest word in fashion.

Happy Birthday Vicki, enjoy the rest of your day. Those crazy skunks, why are they out so early?
What's for breakfast?

Thank you, Carol! You now, I tend to forget about FB -- and I'm not sure how it all works anyway. I'll slip over and have a look.

Yes, Susan, When one is de-skunking a dog in the early hours, one knows that the day is special. Now I think I'll go look for a bow ribbon.

Morning, Fay! The skunks are checking out the fallen seed around the bird feeder. They hope the dogs won't be out yet. They were wrong.

Breakfast was John's Southern Full English Breakfast -- Coffee, Biscuits, Blackberry Jam, Sausage, Mushrooms, Tomatoes, and Eggs. And Mimosas. (took me three tries to type that word -- I may need to go lie down.)

Happy Birthday! I was thinking about you today as I hosted a baby shower for a friend. I see so much of the goodness that I learned over the years from watching you and Mom and Ruth host your various get-togethers (not nesc. together) and it just makes me incredibly grateful to come from such good stock. I hope that I do you all justice in my quest for the good things in life, and for the record must add that you are far from "those family members"--quite the opposite. :)
I hope that today and all of your days are lovely!
xx

And a quick PS--as I recall, wasn't Christmas morning also spent de-skunking? They must have marked the important days of the year ahead of time...what very thoughtful skunks!

Many thanks, Susans B and T!

And yes, Amelia, our skunks do love to make that special contribution for the special days! But it gave me a chance to try out the peroxide/baking soda cure some commenters recommended to me earlier and it does indeed work beautifully! (So nice to earn new things at an advanced age!)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Now quit celebrating and get back to your writing. I've got a lot of stored up interest in Elizabeth.

Happy (day late) birthday, Vicki! Those things sure roll around faster and faster it seems. :-) I know what you mean...when my cousin and I were small shavers, we thought we would all be dead by the year 2000. We would be sooo old and the whole thought of saying '2000' was foreign. But yet, here it is, ten years in and we are still kicking!

Thanks, Mountainwoman -- I'm on the case!

And thank you, Tammy!
