Observed . . .

Fall poplars aflame;
Yellow torches in the mist,
Lighting Winter's way.

Matches flaring up
In the auditorium
Before the last act.

What a feast in your "backyard"!

I thought they were tamaracks at first. Do you have tamaracks down thataway? (Coniferous trees that are also deciduous. Their needles change and drop.)

No tamaracks down here so far as I know. The only deciduous conifers I know of are Dawn Redwoods and they aren't native.

Maybe they are promises of colors in the spring
