But the Menu Says .. .

There seems to be an imaginative soul turning out these menus that accompany the meals here. Sausage patty?
Looks like bacon to me. French toast? Nope, it's a waffle.

Zucchini and yellow squash? Surprise! It's carrots!

What bacon? What toast? And no matter how many times they say grits, it's always oatmeal.

Oh dear.... It would be better not to know what you were supposed to be getting, if you build your hopes up and then get disappointed. Most institutional food is pretty rubbish. You will appreciate home cooking even more when you get back there! (So long as someone else cooks it for you until you can stand properly again.)

Given the strangeness of modern cooking , I wouldn't be surprised to find that the cook had specially cut the squash into carrot shaped slices .
Courgette/zuchinni spaghetti now appears everywhere , not to mention cauliflower couscous .

This has GOT to be the worst kind of incarceration for a woman who is a fabulous cook! And the trickery.....extra torture! Many prayers from here for a go-home date for you!

Our senior lunch program has a menu posted a month in advance. And it may even be the same one they used last year. I showed up once for roast beef and received hamburger patties. When I asked about it, the woman in charge of our site said we'd probably get the roast on the day the hamburger was scheduled. Of course the lunches are packed up and trucked to us from the other side of Asheville. Your food just comes rattling down the hall on a cart from the kitchen! It must not give the organizers a blink that they continually play with out minds! But with some karma on our sides, just imagine what they will go home to...

How many ways can you say "I'm over it!" Hope you're well enough to go home soon.

I spent one night in the hospital 10 years ago. I checked off a salad for lunch. It came as one piece of lettuce and one slice of tomato.
