Downstairs Chickens

Remember the little chick that Justin and Claui's hen  hatched out?

He (or she -- opinions differ) is near grown now and Momma has gone off, possibly to raise another brood. I think she got tired of this giant following her everywhere

Meanwhile, another hen, inspired by the banty, has hatched out three chicks --

It seems to be a case of the toner running out . . .

Justin tells me that this momma has a nest deep in the hay -- here's hoping these babies make it.

I love seeing the chickens running free -- but we can't let out ours (the upstairs chickens) till the garden's done.

This one below is a young Sex Link -- a handsome biddy...

With a compelling gaze.

Delightful update on the chickens. Toner chicks - great phrase!

Who knew you had upstairs chickens and downstairs chickens? Bet those upstairs ones are pretty jealous right now.

When my sister-in-law and her kids lived in the house Justin and Claui have now (a quarter of a mile down hill from us,) the kids started referring to the two houses as upstairs and downstairs. As in: "We're going downstairs to play."

Vicki, how can I tell you how much I enjoyed seeing this post, just after sunset on a hot and humid NYC Sunday...a workday for me, I do add.

That big chick is now well on its (M/F to be decided) grown adventures. That trio of multi-toned chicks are adorable. The toner metaphor was original and perfect for words typed into a computer. Nature...always a muse.

I also love the origin of your local Upstairs Downstairs theme.

If the heat and humdity in this apartment weren't now giving up a challenge to my fan, I'd write more....
