For Liz . . .

For my dear friend Liz and her husband Larry. The beautiful home they were having built on the other side of our mountain burned to the ground in the night. It was nearly completed and I know they are heartbroken to see this labor of love destroyed.  But I have faith that, phoenix-like, they will rise from the ashes. . .

Morning has broken,

Like the first morning,

Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird.

Praise for the singing, praise for the morning,

Praise for the springing fresh from the world...

(Lyrics by Eleanor Farjeon)

I'm so sorry for your friends' loss. I hope they will be able to start over. You know . . . when you build a house, you always think of things you should have done, so maybe, in time, this could look like a blessing.

No one was harmed -- but the builders lost all their tools and equipment as well. All the new appliances had just been delivered . . . but Liz and Larry are strong, resilient folks. They'll be fine, I'm sure. Begin again . . .

What a crippling blow! All the hopes, dreams, and hard work going up in smoke, just when the house was nearing completion.
I hope they had insurance.
One of my worst fears is a house fire. Here in the mountains, where we live so far away from the fire house, it's rare for a house to be saved once the fire gets going. The best the volunteer firemen can usually do is to keep the fire from spreading. I wonder how it started....
Here's hoping that the love we send out to them will help them recover. But recover we must---what else can we do, and still have a life worth living?

What a terrible thing. I know how I would have felt had our house been destroyed just before it was complete. Here's hoping this is just another bump (albeit a huge one) in the road and they will be able to re-build soon.

Oh how sad, sudden fire took away the house of their dreams...may their dreams continue and be freshly built. Tools replaced for the workers as well!

What a huge blow. We invest so much in our homes, love and dreams as well as money. They'll find out who their true friends are, if they didn't know already.
Sympathy and best wishes to them.

My heart goes out to Liz. A fire is one of the things I fear most. Sending prayers her way.

What a terrible lose. They do have each other and their friends and neighbors to help them through.

Oh my goodness, Vicki, what a terribile beginning to this year for your friends.

You say that they are strong, and I do hope that they will be able to rebuild. And that that process will add more strength.

Please do let them know that, via your blog, they have many supporters.
