Bailey Says Welcome to Doggy Daycare

On the days their people go to work, my friends Otter and Domino bring themselves up for daycare.

They come trotting up the path, ready for treats and some rumpus time.

The Woman and the child are reading a book while roughhousing is happening on the leather sofa.

Jenny is singing the song of her people. Domino isn't impressed.

Otter likes to relax.

So does Domino.

Jenny is disappointed because she wants to go out and run and howl, and she was hoping for some pit bull backup. Not happening.

Certainly not with me. I'm your basic homebody. My previous life was outside in a pen, and now that I'm here, I like the inside--rugs and sofas and snacks and friends to play with.

Life is good!

Doggy Daycare

Justin and Claui's dogs often show around lunch time--which is when we feed our three their main meal of the day. Otter and Domino are on a different schedule. . . but the begging is so intense that John fixes 'snack' bowls for then--half a handful of kibble- and removes them to the porch to avoid comparisons.

It makes for a crowd in the kitchen. But there was a time when we had two (large) Old English mastiffs plus assorted other sizable canines. My sister-in-law was visiting and as she negotiated her way through the dog jam in the kitchen in search of morning coffee, she said, "Vicki, you don't have too many dogs; you have too much dogs."

These two think it's still true.

Take Me for a Ride

Maybe if I hide. . .
I won't be seen . . .

Take me for a ride --
After all, I am the Queen!

Going to the Dogs

My friend Josie came out Sunday night for the family birthday celebration. Although she has no pets of her own, Josie's awfully tolerant of our spoiled and demanding pack, allowing Jack a nice snuggle as Ali Ali looks on.

Ali Ali's motto is "It's all about me!" and he really can't bear to see Jack getting all the attention and so . . .

. . .he moves in, becoming impossible to ignore. Except that Jack does, hanging on to his place in Josie's lap . . .

. . . and when Ali Ali, aka 'The Brat,' has been forcibly removed, Jack abides, with a sweet paw-embrace of Josie's leg.

One night at our house, Josie says, fills her need for canine companionship for weeks. Not to mention leaving her covered with dog hair.

As I said, she's a really good sport.
